Moka & Co

“Why are there no coffee shops open late at night?” – Alaina and I have been asking this question aloud for quite some time.

There’s days when I want a late night coffee and it is considered “super” late that Dunkin is closed or Starbucks is closing soon. Where is the cafe or coffee shop that stays open late, where people can meet up with friends and have a late night coffee or tea? Well, I think we just found our spot, Moka & Co.

Moka & Co, recently opened in West Chester, OH a few months ago. We took notice of it as did a lot of our friends. Every time we would see each other, we would ask, “Did you try it out yet?” And all would say, “No, not yet.” Well, Alaina and I finally carved out some time to go on a nice Saturday afternoon.

Moka is in a strip mall with easy access to parking. The day we went to Moka it wasn’t overly crowded. When we entered the establishment, we could hear the buzzing of conversations from the patrons that were already there, seated with their coffees and snacks. We also noticed people on laptops getting work done.

Alaina and I beelined to the back of the cafe, where we could order. There they have a food display case filled with various types of savory and/or sweet croissants, small cheesecakes, and more. On the wall behind the register hangs a board with the drink options and prices. They have signature latte’s and regular latte’s. I chatted with the waitress to get her recommendations, and ended up ordering the Pistachio latte (a specialty latte) with a pistachio croissant. I have never had a Pistachio latte and was curious if it would have a subtle hint of the nut. Alaina ordered a Biscoff latte, ya know like the Biscoff cookies you get on a Delta flight, and also ordered a personal sized blueberry cheesecake. After ordering the staff gave us a restaurant buzzer that would notify us when our order was ready.

Within 5-10 minutes of sitting down our buzzer went off. Since we were dining in, our coffees arrived in beautiful ceramic mugs with the Moka logo on it. My Pistachio latte was surprisingly delightful. My coffee was topped with a swirl of whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup. As I took my first sip, the taste of pistachio was prominent, yet didn’t overpower the coffee flavor. It perfectly complimented the delicious pistachio croissant. The croissant was almost too pretty to eat —drizzled with pistachio cream and pistachio crumbs. This decadent treat was soft and flaky with dollops of pistachio cream within the center of it. Each bite contained a bit of salt from the pastry and sweetness from the cream. I would definitely recommend the latte and the croissant for anyone’s first time visiting, but next time I plan on trying the Dubai chocolate croissant.

Alaina loved her Biscoff latte, it even had a little Biscoff crumb on top. It wasn’t overly sweet, it contained just the right amount of Biscoff. As Alaina said, “It was a coffee that was kissed by a cookie.” After sampling her coffee, Alaina dug into the cutest little blueberry cheesecake. It was about 4-5 inches round with a graham cracker base. The cheesecake itself had a purple hue to it and decorated with a few simple blueberries on top. Each bite was creamy and flavorful accentuated with the firmness of the graham cracker crust. It was definitely a winner in her book.

As we sipped on our coffees and nibbled on our desserts, the manager came over and inquired how things were and told us to leave the tray and plates at our table and they would take care of it for us. We appreciated him telling us this since we didn’t see an area to leave the tray and the dishes.

Overall, we really enjoyed our time at the cafe. We can’t wait to go back and invite our friends to meet us there. I think this cafe fills a need we have, one that is open late and delivers amazing coffee and treats. We definitely recommend others to visit and try Moka & Co.
